Hi! It’s me, Jordyn, I’m so glad you’re here! So the name actually has a double meaning. The first, much deeper meaning encompasses my entire heart behind forming this online community. We are in a world full of so many opinions and pressures of what it means to be successful in this life. Here’s what I know: we are all human, we all often struggle with similar things because of that, and we all on a basic level desire to be loved and supported. I wanted to build a community for filmmakers and creatives where we could support each other in getting really great at our craft but ALSO where we can be honest about the real human experience through it all. A community that allows us to form real, genuine friendships in the creative world. A community where everyday you feel like you are improving and growing in your skill, but also where you are not defined by your successes or failures. You are “more than just a filmmaker”. You are you - with your unique perspective and creativity that only you have. That is SO valuable. It would truly be an honor to get to know you. 😌 The second meaning is simply that everyone defines “filmmaker” differently. This community will be mainly focused on videography and the business behind it because that is what I, Jordyn, have the most experience in…but as the community expands, so will the variety of disciplines/areas of expertise.

• Do you want a place where you can get your specific questions answered about filmmaking, business, and the creative struggle by people who actually get it and experience it too?

• Do you want insight into how others are actually making a living off of their creativity?

• Do you want personal feedback on your work, whether it is praise for the things you’re doing well or valuable critique on the areas you could improve?

• Do you want a space where you can get support beyond just the career aspects of life. A community of people who are able to encourage you when you are in a very dry creative spell or when life just threw all of its curveballs at once?

• Are you tired of watching a bunch of creators on YouTube and Instagram - trying to take their advice but really just wishing you could talk to them directly so you can get an actual realistic perspective?

If you read above, you know my heart behind why I wanted to form this community but what’s my experience? In 2020, I took the leap of faith to quit my full-time job and jumped into being a freelance videographer. Yep, a month before Covid hit. But I am SO GLAD I did. I have loved every step of this journey. I have a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design and while I don’t pursue design work as a freelancer, it’s super helpful in my video business (this website, my logo, the more than a filmmaker logo - all of it is designed by me). In the video world, I’ve worked on a variety of projects from weddings, to documentaries of professional athletes, to corporate videos, to coffee commercials, and so forth. My experience is mainly as a solo-videographer. I haven’t worked with crews but I have great friends (who will be a part of this community) who have. Why do I tell you all of this? I just wanted to give you a little insight into my personal video and business experience so you know what you can expect to learn from me inside the community. Yay! Also, my hope is to fill this community with filmmakers who are way better than me so that it just becomes increasingly more valuable for everybody! I so hope I get to meet you.
